Elon Musk Will Bring Dogecoin to the Moon

UMMATIMES - It's not enough to pompom Dogecoin through absurd chatter on Twitter, Elon Musk will bring the meme cryptocurrency to the moon. On Monday (10/5), he announced that his space company, SpaceX, would launch a moon mission entirely funded by Dogecoin.

This announcement was made by Elon Musk via his personal Twitter account. In the tweet, Musk said that the moon mission would be launched next year. He also pinned a YouTube video of a song about Dogecoin to the moon.

This mission to the moon, which is fully funded through Dogecoin, is the result of a collaboration between SpaceX and research firm Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC).

In a press release distributed on Sunday (9/5), GEC announced that this mission was named DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon. This was the first commercial mission to the month in history that was paid for entirely in Dogecoin.

"After officially transacting with DOGE for an agreement of this magnitude, Geometric Energy Corporation and SpaceX have established DOGE as the unit of account for the moon business in the space sector," said Geometric Energy Chief Executive Officer Samuel Reid.

Mission DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon aims to carry a cubesat - a mini satellite for research - weighing 40 kg. He will be carried to the moon by the Falcon 9 rocket in the first quarter of 2022.

"This mission will demonstrate the application of cryptocurrency beyond Earth orbit and lay the groundwork for interplanetary trading," said SpaceX Vice President of Commercial Sales, Tom Ochinero. "We are excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon!"

However, GEC and SpaceX did not reveal how much the mission was worth.

The announcement of this Dogecoin-funded space mission is not really a surprise. Previously, Musk had announced plans to take Dogecoin to the moon.

"SpaceX will put Dogecoin literal on literal moon," tweeted Musk in early April.

The value of Dogecoin has weakened due to Elon Musk's jokes

Dogecoin itself had weakened at the end of last week, hours before GEC and Musk announced a mission to the Moon that was funded by the cryptocurrency meme.

On Sunday (9/5), the Dogecoin price had to be corrected by 30 percent. According to Fortune's report, the decline was due to a joke that Musk shared with his mother while hosting a Saturday Night Live comedy sketch.

At the beginning of the event, Musk's mother, Mae Musk, seemed to ignore the cryptocurrency that people were talking about.

"I am very happy with my Mother's Day gift," he said. "I just hope it's not Dogecoin," he joked.
Musk, with a grin, replied: "Sure!"

Shortly after the joke surfaced, Dogecoin's value fell to $ 0.49 from $ 0.64 previously. In fact, on Thursday (29/5), Dogecoin had touched its highest price with a value of 0.73 US dollars per coin.

As of Monday (10/5), Dogecoin prices were observed to start moving up again with a value of 0.56, according to the crypto monitoring site CoinDesk as of 07.00 WIB. Currently, its market capitalization is US $ 71.75 billion.
